Newsflash

Sssshhhhh! Don't talk too loud about this because she'll change her mind... but Jordan told us last night she was going to apply to the University of Missouri - Kansas City! I think she's realizing how much she's going to miss us when she's (in Berkeley, New York, Chicago, Seattle, or Eugene) far, far away in college. Or maybe not... I am jumping for joy on the inside...

Update:
Part of me is jumping for joy... the part who wants to see her daughter more than 4 times a year. The part who wants her to get in state tuition along with Bright Flight Scholarship for getting a 31 on the ACT. The part who wants to be able to afford to go visit her daughter at the drop of a hat.
But there's another part who doesn't want her to settle because she thinks I'm going to fall apart without her. The part who doesn't want her to give up her dreams of exploring a big, new city. The part who doesn't want her to have any regrets...

I want her to have it all, too. I remember holding her as a wee one. Look at her now. She's going to take on the world.

HOWEVER, if it meant that you might be in the KC area every so often, that would be fantastic... ;)

How "torn" a mom can feel at times like this. She sounds like such a bright young woman AND such a bright spot in your life. She will shine brightly wherever she goes, and you will never be far from her in your heart. How incredible to be her age and ready to start and new life and take on amazing dreams and challenges!

Argh, I'm waiting on bated breath. Berkely! Berkeley! She can get in-state tuition her second year I think.

I have to admit though that it is a big school. I sometimes wonder if I should have gone to a small liberal arts school. Nah.

What a good mom you are Gina. For not wanting your child to settle, for being selfless enough to endure the pain of seperation so that your daughter can experience LIFE, and for having the guts to let her do what she is being led to do rather than what feels best for you. I'm glad I know you.
