What's in a nickname?

The kids have been talking about what nicknames Merkeb and Filemon will have. It's so funny because everyone in our family has nicknames. Jeff = Doo Doo (don't ask why... Gina = Mo Mo, Jack = Chuck (as in upchuck), Jordan = Jo Jo beanhead, Justine = Hollywood and Beavis, and the ever changing nickname Jaiden = Missy Mae Mae, Mae, Mavis, Marvolo, Me, Meemer. I could go on and on. Nicknames in our family are a sign of importance, of inclusion. To have a good nickname is really important in life. You can't make it happen. It's just like love, you can't force it. It just happens when it's right. If you try to force the nickname, it just won't stick. Just as it will take time for us to get to know the kids and for them to get to know us, it will take time for them to be "crowned" with a nickname.
